Frankfurt registration office: Am Römerhof

Frankfurt handles vehicles and driving licences at the same address, Am Römerhof. The code is F; two older codes are still on some cars.

The city of Frankfurt am Main has a single registration office, Am Römerhof 19, at the same address as the public order office’s licensing department. That is how the Federal Motor Transport Authority’s directory lists it, as of October 2026. Only the code F is issued. The directory also notes two phased-out codes for Frankfurt: FB, which the Wetterau district in Friedberg now issues again, and FH, which used to stand for Frankfurt-Höchst and is likewise listed only as phased out at several neighbouring offices. On 1 January 2026 Frankfurt had 347,938 registered cars, rank 9 among registration districts. With 6.3 % fully electric cars and 4.8 % plug-in hybrids it ranks 14 of 398 for electric share; company cars are counted at the firm’s seat, not where the driver lives. Fees are those of the federal ordinance.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still get an FH plate in Frankfurt?

No. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority’s directory, FH is only listed as phased out in Frankfurt: cars that carry it keep it, but it is not issued again. New Frankfurt plates start with F. To get FB you would have to live in the Wetterau district, which issues that code today.

Where is a Frankfurt company car registered?

At the seat of the company or branch entered as keeper, not at the driver’s home. If the firm is based in Frankfurt, the Am Römerhof office handles it. Companies need extra documents, such as a commercial register extract and a power of attorney; the fee stays at €30.00 for a new registration in person.

I live in Offenbach: Frankfurt or Offenbach registration office?

Offenbach. The city of Offenbach am Main is independent of any district and has its own registration office, as does the district of Offenbach. The Frankfurt office only serves keepers whose main address is in Frankfurt. Online through i-Kfz your application also goes to your own office, but costs just €13.10.
